Rye Playland, the only Art Deco theme park in the United States, opened May 26, 1928, with a working staff of over 1000 people. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it still delights people of all ages. The wooden Dragon Coaster erected in 1927 continues to devour one's stomach.
Gone are the 5 cent trolleys that started service in the year 1900 and ended 1927.
Gone is the sensational Wilno, the human cannonball, shot from a cannon in the year 1933.
But not gone, to which we make a toast, Rye's fun loving spirit of 1907.
