EDGAR ALLAN POE
One of the most famous poems in the English language “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe begins “Once upon a midnight dreary..." and continues with “there came a tapping of a someone gently rapping, rapping on my chamber door”..., and of course this was the raven. New York seems to have the strongest claim from other cities that “The Raven” was written in Poe’s Country house, in the Fordham section of the Bronx where he lived from 1846 to 1849. Poe’s fans continue to love this haunting allure... “nevermore!”
