TITANIC Frederick Fleet was one of two lookouts on Titanic’s crow nest. The iceberg was less than a mile away when he first saw it. However, Fleet would have been able to see the iceberg much sooner if he had binoculars. But the binocular box was empty. It’s incredible that the finest ship in the world sailed without binoculars for her look-outs. Frugality in this case may have caused the deaths of 1,523 people on April 14, 1912. What a tragedy! |
